La Mercč Festival of
Barcelona
is the
townspeople’s festival par-excellence. It is one of
the most popular and important annual festivals in
Barcelona. The day of the city's patron saint, the
Virgin de la Merce is being celebrated during the
festival.
During the week of the 24th of September, the
festivity of Our Lady of Mercy, there are wonderful
and numerous activities that are being held.
The most famous and traditional acts include; ball
de gegants (parades of giants and grotesques), the
correfoc (ancestral dance in which dragons and
demons spit fire as the audacious try to flee) and
the castells (human towers that put the strength and
balance of acrobats to the test).
La Mercč festival is a must on your summer-fall
period Barcelona city breaks. |
