La Sagrada Família Church is one of the most
spectacular and most visited sights in
Barcelona. A
must see and
one of the best
places to see in Barcelona.
It is Antoni Gaudi's most important, biggest and
world famous surrealist masterpiece and his largest
project. The Basilica of the Holy Family (Templo de
la Sagrada Familia) is its full name.
The construction of the church began in 1882 and it
is still ongoing. Its 100 meters long towers form
the silhouette of the city.
Gaudi dedicated more
than 40 years of his life for La Sagrada Familia
from 1883 to his unexpected death in 1926. It's been
said that "Barcelona will be known for this temple".
Gaudi began the four towers (Nativity façade) with
an amazing gospel in stone and ceramics. But he has
only been able to see one of them. The construction
of the church is still ongoing today.
The final
project includes the eight towers which is the
tallest rising to a height of about 170 meters. A
visit to La Sagrada Familia is one of the best
things to do in Barcelona. |
