Alicante (Alacant) is a welcoming seaside city, beautiful gateway of Costa Blanca and the second largest city in the province of Valencia. Being one of the most attractive and preferred holiday destinations on the Costa Blanca, Alicante It is located between
Benidorm and Torrevieja. The castle, beautiful beaches, rich history, museums, shopping and wild nightlife are the spots of Alicante. It is also a main port with attractive marina.

The Explanada de España is the lively seafront promenade that brings the vessels bobbing at the quays into the daily life of the townsfolk. A bandstand on the esplanade ensures that the strains of the Municipal Band will be there to liven up the leisure hours of the evening and Sunday morning stroller.

At the Valencia end of the promenade lie the El Postiguet beach that stamps the city with its glorious holiday atmosphere.

The Old Quarter rises on the sides of Benacantil Hill with its fascinating Santa Bárbara Castle from which a sweeping vista of the city, sea and L’Alacantì district can be enjoyed. Across the road from Postiguet Beach you may reach to a hill of 166 meters by a lift. The Moorish fort was rebuilt by Philip II and subsequently underwent a series of alterations and extensions. La Torreta and the highest point the Plaza del Macho are the spots.

Across the Old Quarter lies an area of narrow streets that the great nightlife take place and one emerges into the Plaza del Ayuntamiento-City Hall Square.

At the rear of the City Hall, the Cathedral Church of San Nicolás de Bari is another spot of the Herrera and Baroque styles. Baroque altar, 15th-century cloister, Communion chapel, grillwork and wooden doors are amongst the the most outstanding architectural features.

Following the narrow lanes that lead past the City Hall towards the northern part of the Old Quarter, you come across to the Plaza de Santa María where two interesting buildings stands and worth to visit. The Gothic-style Church of Santa María which was built on the site of a Moorish mosque and St. Andrew and the Apostle St. James can be seen on its Baroque façade with a sculpted figure of Madonna and Child presides over the main altar inside.


The 17th century Museo Casa de la Asegurada is worth to visit that house an important collection of contemporary art, with works by Picasso, Gris and Miró.

On the far side of the Rambla de Méndez Núñez lies the modern city. The Archaeological Museum here in the Provincial Authority Building is another museum to visit and see where finds taken from the Tossal de Manises archaeological site on the La Albufereta Beach are exhibited.

Rising behind the Provincial Authority Building is the hilltop silhouette of San Fernando Castle which is constructed to defend the city from the Napoleonic invasion. This unfinished stronghold is now used as a theme park.

There are numerous great beaches in Alicante. San Juan, Cabo de Huertas, La Albufereta, Agua Amarga and El Salar are the most popular of the
Alicante beaches.
