Cartagena is a beautiful and historical port city in Costa Calida, on the southern Spain. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. It has a history of more than 2,500 year.

The famous holiday resort of La Manga del Mar Menor is also located very close to Cartagena.

Attractions & Things to Do in Cartagena

The National Submarine Archaeology Museum as well as the coast and the Roman Amphitheatre and all historical monuments are the best spots of the city.

To discover the city of Cartagena; visitors may go to the Cartagena Port of Cultures and take a trip aboard the tourist catamaran and experience Cartagena in the company of the wonderful views of the bay and the castles and coastal gun batteries. Also the tourist buses are a great choice to discover the city.

Sights and places of interest in Cartagena include; Muralla del Mar, Isaac Peral's submarine, Ayuntamiento (Town Hall), Old Cathedral, Roman Theatre, Casa Cervantes, Casa Llagostera, Casino, Church of Santa María de Gracia, Casa Maestre, Casa Dorda, Casa Zapata, Palacio Aguirre, Roman column, Palacio Pedreño and Castillo de la Concepción.

At the Cartagena Port of Cultures panoramic lift; visitors may experience the bird eye view of the city on a 45-metre glass elevator.

Cartagena is also considered as the city of museums. Visitors may find and experience great number of museums in Cartagena. The Military Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the Naval Museum, the Museum of Underwater Archaeology and Carmen Conde Museum are worth a visit.

As for cultural events & festivals in Cartagena; Cartagena is home to the world famous International Mar de Músicas festival which is held annually in July. It is considered to be amongst the best music festivals in the world.

As for water sports and outdoor activities; nearby holiday resorts offer great opportunities. La Manga del Mar Menor is one of the best tourist destinations in Europe and Mediterranean worthy of its sandy beach and crystal-clear waters with highest tourist facility standards. Cabo de Palos is a charming seafaring village just a a few minutes from La Manga.
Underwater caves are located between Cartagena and La Azohía. Cabo de Palos is one of the best sites in Spain for skin diving.

As for shopping in Cartagena; Centro de Artesanía de Cartagena (Calle Capitanes Ripoll) is worth to visit and shop that exhibits a wide range of handicrafts that are produced in the area.  It is possible to experience how clay, glass, cloth, and esparto-grass are handcrafted.
