Overview
Nerja is a nice seaside resort in
Costa del Sol located
50 km. on the east of the capital
Málaga. The town is situated under the Sierra de
Almijara mountains and so called as "the Jewel of the Costa del Sol".
Things to Do and See in
Nerja
One of the most popular and biggest attraction in the town is the Nerja Caves
- Cuevas de Nerja
and its environment including the limestone caverns and cave primitive paintings which are
estimated to be 20,000 years old. Nerja Caves are located 4 km. on the east of
the town. Nerja Caves are Spain's third most visited tourist attraction in Spain
after Alhambra Palace and The Prado Museum.
The shopping street of Nerja leads to a spectacular rocky plateau nearby the
white parish church which is the famous "Balcon of Europe - Balcon de
Europa". It is the
most beautiful and attractive view point of Costa del Sol. The stunning view of
the town and the sea is fantastic and beautiful. This promenade region is lined
up with variety of restaurants and cafes. A must attraction to take.
Iglesia El Salvador on the way to Balcon de Europa, the 19th century
Aqueduct, 17th century Baroque Hermitage of las Angustias and
Church of El Salvador are the other nice sight to visit.
Visiting a Spanish horse riding school is another great attraction take.
For nature lovers, the Sierra Nevada Mountains is only a 30 minutes
drive. The area is wonderful and offers great opportunities for nature walks,
hikes and winter sports.
Nerja Beaches
Nerja has a beautiful over 9 km. of fine sandy beaches attracting holidaymakers.
Many of the them are located on the coves by the cliffs.
Burriana Beach is the most famous and popular beach in the Nerja
municipality.
Nightlife in Nerja
The nightlife in Nerja is centered on the Calle Antonio Millon and
Plaza Tutti Frutti. There are variety of nightlife and bars around the
square. There are about 400 restaurants and bars in Nerja to enjoy.
