About El Hierro Island
El Hierro, is the smallest and farthest south of the Canarian archipelago and Spain in the Atlantic Ocean. So it is called as the land that has the latest sunset in Spain.

El Hierro is a heaven for nature, hiking and diving lovers. The island is incredibly beautiful.

Due to its not having sandy beaches like the other islands, El Hierro is mostly preferred by the nature lovers and this lets the island to stay in peace and not much crowded. 

The island has about 10,600 inhabitants and made up  of several towns.

 
 
El Hierro has a perfect natural beauty with its evergreen lands, mountains and cliffs.

The beautiful flora, fauna, mountainous lands and underwater environment reward the island as the most beautiful one to make nature activities such as hiking and snorkeling.

Places to Visit and See in El Hierro
Valverde is the center of El Hierro Island. It has altitude of 600 meters.

El Golfo in the western part of the island, is a rugged mountainous area where, not so long ago lava engendered a series of defiles along with numerous cones that reach the highest altitudes found on the island.
 
 

Ermita de los Reyes is a pilgrim way in the western island. The biggest fiesta of the island is organized in July in 4 years period.

Along the east part of the island, the tall peaks of the region of Garoé stands. It is an array of relatively recent volcanic formations such as the Caldera de Ventejis, while the southwest is ridged with cliffs and crags topping the Las Playas escarpment.

Most holidaymakers make a daily visit to
El Hierro for a nice hiking and snorkeling activities in their Canary Islands holidays.

 

How to Get to El Hierro

By Air

El Hierro’s airport (Phone: +34 922 55 37 00) is small one and located 12 km. outside of Valverde.  There are flights to El Hierro from Spain mainland by the Spanish airlines of Binter Canarias (Phone: +34 902 39 13 92; www.binternet.com) via Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

By Sea
Puerto de la Estaca is the port of El Hierro. The fast ferries from Los Cristianos takes you to the island's port of Santa Cruz de la Palma. (The Fred Olsen (Phone: +34 902 10 01 07; www.fredolsen.es)).
