About Formentera Sightseeing

Formentera is famous for its its fine sandy beaches, excellent nature and splendid scenery.

There are lots of great places to see in Formentera for the holidaymakers on their Formentera holidays.

The island is considered as the last bastion of earthly paradise on the Mediterranean.

As for towns to visit and see; Formentera consists of a single municipality with five small towns that include; La Savina, Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran, El Pilar and Es Pujols.

 

La Savina is the only point of entry to Formentera. La Savina is a small town but the network of rural roads leads to many beautiful corners of Formentera.

Sant Francesc is the capital town located on the inland, 3 km. from La Savina. Sant Francesc de Formentera is the only town on the island and it is the focal point and hub for the other tourist areas. Sant Ferran is a nice town located the most centrally on Formentera. Sant Ferran de ses Roques is a small hamlet with 700 inhabitants and a crossroads between La Savina, Es Pujols, Sant Francesc and La Mola.

Es Pujols is the main tourist and holiday resort in Formentera. Majority of
Formentera hotels and nightspots are located in Es Pujols.

El Pilar de la Mola is the highest point on Formentera and hosts the ancient Frumentaria of the Romans. The panoramic views of the island and Mediterranean together with the beautiful Migjorn beach, Migjorn on one side and es Pujols on the other side. Sant Ferran de ses Roques is the port area and all official services are concentrated here. Puerto de la Savina is just like a toy town. Es Calo is a small fishing and holiday town nestling at the foot of La Mola located by an ancient Roman harbor.

 

As for historical sites to see; the Sant Francesc Xavier Church, Sa Tanca Vella Chapel, Cap de Barbaria Megalithic Settlement, The Roman Castellum at Can Blai, Moli Vell of La Mola, Cana Costa Megalithic Settlement are the popular places worth a visit.

As for Formentera beaches; there are a lot of excellent white sandy beaches in Formentera with Blue Flag reward. Ses Illetes beach and Migjorn beach (Playa Migjorn) are the most popular beaches in Formentera.

Playa Migjorn
, also known as Platja Mitjorn is located on the south coast of Formentera.

The five kilometers long Migjorn beach is the longest beach on Formentera.

 

As for trips to nearby beautiful islands; the isles des Porcs (Pig island), Caragoler, Es Penjats (Hanged Man’s Island) and s’Espalmador where an 18th century watchtower of Sa Torreta rises may be visited. Daytrips for the nearby islands are organized by boat from Formentera.

As for nature; Formentera offers great opportunities for the nature lovers. Visitors may discover the great nature and 80 km. of coastline easily by bike or on foot. The unspoiled natural environment and the green inland routes carved in pine forests is outstanding.
