Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the capital city, largest resort and an industrial town of the Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands with a busy port. About a 1,000 ship stops by Las Palmas a month. It is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Gran Canaria.
Things to Do & See in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The old town of the city, that is also the commercial district, is situated on the south of the River Guiniguada. The most remarkable building there is the 15th century mansion, the Casa de Colón. It is the place where Christoph Columbus stayed for some time.

The Santa Anna Cathedral is the biggest building and landmark of Las Palmas. It is a three knave church with two tower bells. On the opposite side of the Cathedral, there is the City Hall to see. There is a chapel on the square of San Telmo where it is an ideal meeting location.

For a city walking tour with great landscape, Parque Santa Catalina by the port is the perfect starting point. It is a popular square with lots of cafes and kiosks.


Pueblo Canario is another place of attractions where visitors may experience and enjoy folk dances, art galleries and handcraft shops. The museums in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria include; the Museo Diocesana de Arte Sacro nearby the Santa Anna Cathedral and the Museu Canario.

There are numerous fine beaches with nice cafes in Las Palmas. The most famous beach is the Playa de las Canteras with a length of 3 km. A nice one of the Gran Canaria beaches.

Calle Triana (Calle Mayor de Triana) is the best shopping street to visit and make shopping. The street includes variety of little shops as well as huge shopping malls.
