Madrid has lively and colorful fiestas. Christmas in Madrid has a
special flavor with its Christmas market in the Plaza Mayor, celebration
of the New Year’s Eve in the Puerta del Sol and all the colorful
ambiance of the Christmas shopping in the city. The shows and city view
is magnificent during the Christmas times.
The traditional procession of the Three Magi (Cabalgata de Reyes)
is held in Madrid on the 6th of January as well as the lively Madrid
The feast day of Madrid’s patron saint, San Isidro on the 15th of
May is another lively festivity time in Madrid where spectacular outdoor
dances and acts take place.

Madrid is the St. Anthony’s day where marriageable young
girls seeking suitors continue the seamstresses’ tradition of
depositing thirteen pins in the baptismal font in the hope of
finding favor with the saint at the Hermitage Chapel of San
Antonio de la Florida down by the Manzanares riverside.
In August, the traditional castizo Madrid takes to the
streets for the festivities of St. Cayetano, St. Lawrence and
the Virgin of La Paloma.
Processions, open-air shows and dances continue till late night.
As for the trade fairs,
Madrid has a couple of nice ones held annually. The Juan Carlos I
Showgrounds (Parque Ferial) is the area for the trade fairs with its
fine trade-fair pavilions, modern office buildings and the Municipal
Convention Centre as well as two hotels and a large park.
The International Tourism Fair (Feria Internacional del Turismo -
FITUR) is one of the best showcases of the world tourism in Madrid.
The ARCO that is held in February is also a fair of trends in
contemporary art together with the SIMO TCI, the International
Computer, Multimedia and Communications Fair that is held in November.
