Overview
Madrid has lively and colorful fiestas. Christmas in Madrid has a special flavor with its Christmas market in the Plaza Mayor, celebration of the New Year’s Eve in the Puerta del Sol and all the colorful ambiance of the Christmas shopping in the city. The shows and city view is magnificent during the Christmas times.

The traditional procession of the Three Magi (Cabalgata de Reyes) is held in Madrid on the 6th of January as well as the lively Madrid Carnival.

The feast day of Madrid’s patron saint, San Isidro on the 15th of May is another lively festivity time in Madrid where spectacular outdoor dances and acts take place.

13th of June in Madrid is the St. Anthony’s day where marriageable young girls seeking suitors continue the seamstresses’ tradition of depositing thirteen pins in the baptismal font in the hope of finding favor with the saint at the Hermitage Chapel of San Antonio de la Florida down by the Manzanares riverside.

In August, the traditional castizo Madrid takes to the streets for the festivities of St. Cayetano, St. Lawrence and the Virgin of La Paloma.

Processions, open-air shows and dances continue till late night.

As for the trade fairs, Madrid has a couple of nice ones held annually. The Juan Carlos I Showgrounds (Parque Ferial) is the area for the trade fairs with its fine trade-fair pavilions, modern office buildings and the Municipal Convention Centre as well as two hotels and a large park.

The International Tourism Fair (Feria Internacional del Turismo - FITUR) is one of the best showcases of the world tourism in Madrid.

The ARCO that is held in February is also a fair of trends in contemporary art together with the SIMO TCI, the International Computer, Multimedia and Communications Fair that is held in November.
