How to Get there? ~ Travelling to Madrid

 

Madrid is the capital and the largest city of Spain located in the central Spain. Approximately 50 million tourists visits Madrid in Spain every year. Madrid is the the center of the transportation network of Spain.

By Air
Madrid's airport is MAD - Madrid Barajas Airport (AEROPUERTO DE BARAJAS) (Phones: (+34) 902 35 35 70 / (+34) 91 305 83 43 / (+34) 91 305 83 45) and is located 15 km. from the city center. There are a lot of direct flights to Madrid from many European and world countries via numerous major airlines. There are also many cheap flights to Madrid from major UK cities via budget airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair etc.

The airport has 3 terminals and there are fine transportation opportunities between the airport and the city center.

Metro Line 8 (Nuevos Ministerios-Aeropuerto T4) connects the city with Barajas International Airport in 20 minutes to T4 terminal and 12 minutes to the other terminals.

By Bus
There are many scheduled international bus lines to Spain from the many European countries. Below are the scheduled bus services and routes to Spain. (http://www.movelia.es/)

Buses operate in and around Madrid with over 150 lines. Méndez-Álvaro (Estación Sur de Madrid) and Avenida de America are the two main bus stations of Madrid.

Alsa buses (+34 902 42 22 42) buses cover all parts of Spain and also operate through several cities in Morocco and some European countries such as Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Slovakia, France, Great Britain, Holland, Italy, Luxembourg, Moldavia, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Switzerland and Ukraine.

Socibus buses (+34 902 22 92 92) operate to and from Sevilla, Cádiz, Córdoba, Huelva and Jerez de la Frontera.

Auto Res buses (+34 902 02 09 99) operates to Badajoz, Benavente, Cáceres, Castellón, Cuenca, Mérida, Orense, Pontevedra, Salamanca, Valencia, Vigo, Zamora and Lisbon (Portugal).

By Rail
Some International railway lines operates to Madrid Chamartín station from Paris and Lisbon.

Travelling in Madrid by Rail
There are 3 main train stations in Madrid. Chamartín that connects the city with north and east; Norte that connects the city with northwest and Atocha that connects the city with west and south regions.

Underground rail network service, Metro, is well equipped and offers access to all regions of Madrid with an extensive network of ten lines and over 120 trains.

In addition, the Madrid Cercanías Trains which is a light railway operates and provides one of the cheapest and fastest ways to access nearby cities such as Toledo, Segovia, Avila, El Escorial, Aranjuez, Chinchon and Alcala de Henares.

Transportation in Madrid
Transportation through the city can be made via public busses, taxis, underground metro, funiculars, trams and vehicle/car hire and rentals. Public transportation is very easy through the city.
