Places to Visit & See in Menorca

Menorca, is the farthest island of the Balearic Islands to the Spain mainland. Menorca is a wonderful beach holiday destination worthy of its fantastic golden sandy beaches, beautiful coves, pine tree settings and spectacular coast lines.

Ciutadella in the west and Maó (Mahón) in the east are the tow main cities of Menorca. Ciutadella (Ciudadela) is a great historical city. It is Menorca’s former capital and an ideal base camp for variety of excursions. 
Ciutadella hotels offer great accommodation and quality service for the Menorca holidaymakers. Mahon (Mao) is the capital city of Menorca and one of the two main towns in the island located on the east of the island. Mahon is nowadays a bustling cosmopolitan city. Santa Maria Church is the most famous one in Mao.

 

Around the coasts, the natural harbor around Maó worth visiting as well as the Binibèquer Vell and Cala en Porter residential developments. And also the town of Fornells on the nothern coasts. On the inlands, Alaior, es Mercadal and Mount Toro are the nicest places to visit and see.

Ferreries is a lovely village situated between Ciutella and Mao. It is the highest town in Menorca. Church of Sant Bartomeu dating back to 1870 is the town’s oldest building.

Nearby are the beautiful beaches of Cala Calderer, Cala Moragues and Cala del Pilar. On the Santa Agueda hillside, there stands the ruins of the Moorish Castle of Sent Agayz and the remains of an old Roman road.

Moving along the south coasts of Menorca, you'll find more golden sandy resorts and rocky coves. Also sea in the southern Menorca tends to get rougher. Great region especially for water sports.

 
 

Cala Galdana in the mid south coast of the island may be a nice choice for the holidaymakers with its great white sandy beaches, nice villas, a great hotel and crystal clear waters. Cala Galdana is Ferreries’ most popular holiday resort that extends into the Ciutadella municipal area.

The coasts along the river mouth by the Algendar Barranco has the most popular and famous
Menorca beaches.

Binibèquer Vell is one of the most famous beach holiday resort on the Sant Lluís coast.

Nearby are the beautiful beaches of Binisafúa, Binidalí, Biniparratx and Cala Torret.

 

Cala en Porter is one of the most famous and popular beaches along the southern coast of Menorca. It is also a popular and major resort and residential area.

There is cave which was converted to a nightclub of  Cova den Xoroi among the high cliffs.

Es Castell is a nice town located on the eastern coast of
Menorca. Es Castell is named after the Castle of San Felipe.

On the northern coasts, the authentic fishing village of Fornells first attracts the visitors. Fornells is preferred for its water sports, fishing, fantastic food and its being pace and quiet. This small fishing harbor falls within the Mercadal municipal area and lies in the shadow of the 17th century Castle of San Antonio. The restaurants here are fantastic and worth visiting. Caldereta de langosta is the famous dish not to be missed. It is a lobster stew made with peppers, onion, tomato, garlic and herb liqueur.
